Patrons/Shoppers

What is a food pantry?

Food pantries are designed to help individuals or families subsidize their food supply with additional supplies to last for a week. West Johnston Food Pantry does not serve hot meals. We are a student-led organization and follow the policies of Johnston County Public Schools. West Johnston Food Pantry is a judgment-free zone, designed to decrease food insecurity in our community.

Who may become a patron of the West Johnston Food Pantry?

To "qualify", patrons must only live in the area of McGee's Crossroads or Cleveland. Before shopping or receiving food, patrons must complete the registration form either online or in person during our business hours. Proof of residency will be required in order to confirm the information provided on the registration. Patrons may every week, on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 as needed.  The West Johnston Food Pantry is only open once a week, and our hours may sometimes change according to either season or other circumstances.

How does the pantry maintain its food supply?

We are grateful to our partners who share the same vision of decreasing food insecurity in Johnston County. Food Lion of Cleveland, store #9147 has partnered with us in the Food Lion Feeds program. We have volunteers who pick up and deliver the donations to our location on a weekly basis. White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Willow Springs provides us with produce grown from their community garden, in addition to weekly donations. Please keep in mind that the donations we receive are given to us, not requested by us.

When is the Pantry open to patrons?

The West Johnston Food Pantry is only open one day a week. We are open for patrons to shop on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. We may shift our times for holidays. Please be sure to check our current day and time updated on our Home page. If you have any questions, you may call Mrs. Amber Bryant at West Johnston High School at 919-934-7333, ext. 5942.

Why are food pantries important for communities?

Circumstances happen and in trying times, we may be faced with the decision to buy food or to pay for gas or utility bills. Food pantries are available to help make that decision easier. We believe that no one in our community, in our county, or in our country should go hungry. The WJ Food Pantry wants to be a part of eliminating hunger and decreasing food insecurity in our community. We know that if students are hungry, they cannot learn.
